No charge Michigan State Park DNR passes in 2007
Browsing the MMBA.org site, I came accross a story about the DNR parking passes. It is my understanding that the state law that allows the DNR to charge for parking passes ends this year. Without that law and not being able to profit from the passes, they will be in definate finacial trouble. Then where will we ride?
Free parking in ‘07? Not such a good thing.
Under current state law, the DNR cannot sell park passes (a.k.a. motor vehicle permits) starting January 1st, 2007. This provides a significant portion (over $13 million) of the DNR Parks budget and they cannot keep all the parks open without this funding. The MMBA is working with Senator Michelle McManus to get a bill passed this year that would extend the 2007 deadline to 2010.
Senator McManus’s SB 924 passed out of committee yesterday and is heading to the Senate floor. Today we’ll send an […] Continue Reading…
Stoney Creek or just plain Stoney
Stony Creek, RAIN OR SHINE!!! It has been a few days since I have gotten out to ride, and I can take no more! I plan to ride Stoney Creek tonight for the first time, even though I have yet to get a helmet. Rumor has it that riding without a helmet is frowned on. Oh well…Soon enough…I like to think.
Follow-up…Nate and I arrive at the park, it is 6:30pm. The park was huge, and we drove around wasting precious time, finally settling on spot where there seemed to be lots of other bikes. We proceeded to unload the bikes, get geared up, and of course set the all important way point on the Garmin eTrex GPS.Riding over to the map of the park we quickly realize this is not the spot we need to be. Upon looking around I come to realize the majority of the bikes are […] Continue Reading…
Grand Rapids Free Ride UnderGround Revival
Scouring the forums of www.mmba.org, I found this intresting thread about a great trail found in disarray, with a great history. There is a video of it being ridden a few years ago, it is featured near the end. The video can be downloaded HERE. Photos of it’s current state can be seen HERE.
There is now a website dedicated to local riders and rebuilding the course. www.geeride.net
Check it out and get some ideas!
Pailheadweb.com Gets a New Look!
Welcome to the latest version of pailheadweb.com! I have been playing with this site for way to many years and it’s had many different looks and purposes. The main purpose has always been a place for me to play with building websites and learning new things but has never really been anything serious. And now with the explosion of Blogs, I figure hey why not. So now pailheadweb is technically pailheadwebLOG…whutever, anyhow while I figure out what the layout should be and what neat things I can add to it there won’t be much blogging going on, but hopefully now that I have started to mountain bike seriously again, I plan to post many of my exploits to different trails in Michigan and beyond!!!
